Excerpt...

“Oh no, don’t do this to me now,” Ivy Valentine told her rental car as it hiccupped its last breath with a jerk. She coasted to the side of the exit ramp and hung her head. “Why me?”

She jammed the car in park and pulled out her cell phone to call the rental company. A minute later, she hung up with their promise to send a tow truck and reassurance that they’d drop off another car at her hotel.

Ivy glanced at her quartz watch. She had thirty minutes to register for her convention. Her red-tipped nails drummed the steering wheel. “Could this day get any worse?” She knew she shouldn’t ask that question. It always invited disaster but her day was already that and more.

Her phone rang. She glanced at the incoming number and sighed. Yep, she shouldn’t have asked that question. “Hello, Mom.”

“What? You couldn’t pick up the phone and let me know you arrived safely?

Ivy rolled her eyes and prayed for patience. “I’m still on my way to the hotel. I was going to call you after I checked in.” It was just a small lie.

“Oh, well how was your flight?”

“The flight from hell? Wonderful. It shook and dropped until all one-hundred-and-sixty-eight passengers were blended together to emerge as one well versed, cross-dressing doctor of business with a penchant for acting who sells perfume to entrepreneurs with children.” Ivy drew in a breath then added, “And it was two-hours late.”

“That’s nice dear.”

She pulled the phone away to look at it. Her mother hadn’t heard a word she’d said. She put the phone back to her ear.

“…make sure you go tonight.”

She closed her eyes. “Yes, Mother.” No need to ask her mom to repeat what she’d missed. Ivy already knew it was about the charity Masquerade party at her hotel. The last thing she wanted was to socialize with a room full of Valentino-wanna-be’s.

I just loved this fun, romantic comedy. I chuckled throughout the entire story and I felt so bad for what both Rome and Ivy were going through. I felt like I was another character in the story and that I was there seeing everything first hand. This was an enjoyable page-tuner for me and I can’t wait to read Valentine’s Day Do-Over Part II: The Siblings. I would definitely recommend Donna Michael’s stories to others. I know you will enjoy this one as much as I did.

This is a really funny story, slightly reminiscent of the movie Groundhog Day. Each rerun gets more and more outrageously funny, leaving the two would be lovers alone at midnight, only to start all over again the next day. The lottery ticket angle is also clever, if only the ticket did not disappear each morning. The characters names were also pretty funny; Ivanna, Candace, and Mia Valentine, and Roman and Racine Hartt. This story is a great way to get in the mood for Valentine’s Day.

Eros was not happy when his plans to have Rome and Ivy meet went awry.  All was not lost as they could still meet at the masquerade that evening.  But when that doesn’t work either, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

Thus begins a series of Valentine’s days until Rome and Ivy get it right by meeting and falling in love.  In Valentine’s Day Do-Over, our hero and heroine try to understand why the same day keeps recurring.  I enjoyed the gradual introduction between the two, both of their insistence that this had to do with the lottery, and their dawning realization of love.

Valentine's Day Do-Over is a fun and light-hearted read. Eros provides great comedic relief and the bumbling antics of Rome and Ivy trying to get together are great! The interaction between the two characters at the police station is sizzling. The length is perfect for a brief foray into romance, while the plot and characters provide ample entertainment. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait for the next couple that Eros gets together. Watch out Racine Hartt and Mia Valentine!
